Feldfu project - connection established!

We report fresh after the connection test in our residential area in Pressburg. In short: communication test was established and successful on distance simulating original range! There are indications that it may have even a better range than the original pieces, but we will have to go to the field to find out.

Okey, okey... that's probably too much fuss on having modern walkie-talkie in authentic Feldfu box. However, now we made the important step. Now we are sure that we can offer and deliver perfect product - good looking & working. Primary idea was to hide complete walkie-talkie with modern antenna inside. It took a while to test various modern radios (some of the signals were blocked only by the plastic case?!). Finally we ended up with more robust walkie-talkies with enhanced antenna. Now we are playing with the idea of bringing out a modern antenna so that it simulates the early-war antenna part. This would not be possible for late war antennas, but should significantly increase range for early-war designs.

 

Considering the complexity of the project and the time span of realization, this could be our the most impressive project so far.

In three months of diligent work we were able to proof our concept and prepare a path for many new pieces coming. 3D production speed is the biggest bottleneck, therefore we are starting with preorders now. Printing machine is already running and we will process all parts at once in series of 10.

Despite all the necessary steps and little adjusting steps we did (bullet list should contain another 100 little checkpoints), there still remains few more steps. These should be solved within next three months, to prepare a complete delivery within autumn 2022 - to satisfy all preorders. 

 

Common technical details of our Feldfu reproductions:

Size: 34x36x12cm (without antenna)

Weight: 4.5 kg

Powered by: commercially available walkie-talkies 400-520MHz, 5W

Frequency: one of specific 446 civic channel set for all our repro radios

Battery: 1800 mAh (will lasts months of sporadic use without charging)

Succesfull communication range, tested:

  • on 400m with obstacles: 3x block of flats
  • on 100m into WW2 bunker with 1,3m metal-concrete wall
  • direct sight 1000m: TBA
  • direct sight 2000m: TBA
  • direct sight 3000m: TBA

Feldfu package contains:

  • the Feldfu case in dark grey finish, antenna mount, hinges, hooks and rivets based on original
  • two main lids comes with code alphabet and internal plastic label-sheets with rubber gaskets
  • front-panel with all parts movable, partially working, detachable volume control
  • metal antenna in 80/70/120 cm according to design chosen 
  • extension cable Fernbedienungskabel b, for volume control (mount to belt/chest)
  • authentic interior radio skelet part for hiding modern electronics
  • Sammler 2,4 NC 28 battery box
  • modern walkie-talkie with rechargable battery
  • electronics ready for peripherals connection (headphones and microphone not included)
  • authentic paper documentation, handbooks

Doppelfernhörer f (Dfh. f)

Standard phones for radio equipment. Contains two-pin connector. Originals are widely available and often working, so decide if you need repros for higher price (current technical options allow us only to produce it more expensive than originals).

Kehlkopfmikrofon c

Practical part of every Feldfu package. Throat mic (laryngophone) absorbs vibrations directly from the wearer's throat by sensors worn against the neck. Sensors can pick up speech even in extremely noisy or windy environments. Contains three-pin connector.
